This page contains all the rules and disciplinary systems used in GTSL. These rules are implemented to support clean and fair driving, this includes the prohibition of corner cutting, track extending, or contact with other players etc.
Rules are subject to change and can be amended by staff at any point during the season.
A. General:
I. General Motorsport conduct applies.
II. Avoid contact with other vehicles always, if it is apparent that you are responsible for contact with another vehicle penalization could occur.
III. If you are responsible for deliberately hitting an opponent, suspension/expulsion from the championship could occur.
IV. If contact is made, on purpose or accidental, and there is an opportunity to allow the other car back ahead, it is recommended to do so in a safe and responsible manner. If the opportunity is not taken, and video evidence is available, a penalty could be given.
V. When using a mic, communication is allowed during qualification but is prohibited until the last driver has crossed the finish line during a race session. Team communication (private) is allowed at the team’s discretion.
VI. If distracting or intolerable volume is noticed coming from a players mic, the player must aim to fix the issue or disconnect the equipment.
VII. When the race session is underway, GTSL members should avoid using the PS messages app to contact other members or warn that they cannot make the race. This can be distracting to drivers who are racing so please do not send a PS message until 30 minutes after the proposed end of the race or after drivers that were present for the session have begun to use the app.
VIII. Ensure that everyone has finished their race before sending a message or turning your mic back on. If you must leave, then leave and send a message to the forum.
IX. Rage quitting will not be tolerated, if you rage quit there can be a penalty given. Quitting is however not prohibited if you have a technical difficulty etc. Please notify the league coordinators once the race is finished in an appropriate manner.
X. If you are going to miss a race, it is strongly encouraged you to notify league staff at least 2 hours before the start of the race (situation permitting). If you miss a race and staff is not notified of your absence, you can lose your sign-up privilege in hard sign-ups and/or championship points.
XI. If you miss 3 races without notifying league staff, there is a possibility you will be suspended from the league as well as losing sign up privileges.
B. Overtaking:
I. When overtaking, ensure that you leave enough space for the defending car to stay on track. Pushing a defending car off track can result in a penalty.
II. It is the attacking cars responsibility to use a clean maneuver to pass the car ahead. Contact or "loosening up" an opponent will not be tolerated.
III. Overtaking must be done at opportune times and therefore no “divebomb” overtakes will be tolerated. Ensure that you are close enough to the driver ahead to make a safe pass.
IV. For overtaking lapped or cars in a slower category, refer to section F.
V. When overtaking a car in a lower class, the lower classed car has the right to the traditional driving line. It is the faster cars responsibility to pass the slower car safely unless it can pass in the breaking zone in a safe manner. However, lower class cars are to do their best to move out of the way for the faster car to pass if it is not in an in-class battle. Blocking a faster car when alone on track will not be tolerated, do not defend against a car out of class.
C. Defending:
I. Defending cars must not weave or block cars behind. When defending, drivers must pick a racing line when entering the braking zone and must not stray from this line. This means no "Verstappen" like moves in the breaking zone. Running the opponent off the track will also not be tolerated. If the attacking car is more than 50% (wheelbase) alongside, the defending car must adjust its line to compensate for the attacker. Basically, when in the braking zone, you are allowed 1 move to defend your position.
II. Defenders must ensure that they leave enough room on straights as well, technically, defenders can "crowd" the attacking car on strengths. However, if contact occurs, the defending car will be penalized in a dispute and held responsible.
III. Defenders must be aware of where their car is on track and their surroundings, specifically regarding how wide their car is during wheel to wheel cornering maneuvers. Peripheral vision is difficult to attain in sim racing and this is understandable, however, it is the defending driver’s responsibility to maintain caution when cornering against an opponent. This is especially relevant in section F.
D. Corner Cutting/Track Extension:
I. Each driver must stay within track limits (lines), only 2 tires will be allowed to exit the track limits at a time, this will be enforced by the Project Cars penalty system. If track cutting or extending is not caught by the PC2 system but is caught on video by another driver, a penalty could be enforced.
II. If you overtake a vehicle while cutting or extending, you may give the position back and avoid penalization. If passing doesn’t happen, drivers may lift significantly to lose the advantage gained.
III. Penalization for corner cutting aside from PC2’s system will be determined by the league's stewards.
IV. If a penalty is given that you don’t feel is deserved by the PC2 system, send in video evidence for a steward’s inquiry to see what can be done.
E. Re-joining Procedure:
I. If you go off track, you must rejoin as safe as possible. This means waiting for the full field to pass or rejoining when there is a safe break in traffic. If you are contacted rejoining the track, you will be given a penalty regardless of the reason, and regardless of position. While rejoining, avoid crossing the racing line, if you must, wait for a break in traffic, and slowly enter track limits while accelerating. You must yield to all cars on the track, regardless of class or position.
II. Re-joining procedures apply regardless of the session; practice, qualifying, or race sessions all require drivers to obey the re-joining procedures.
III. Resetting to track is forbidden and will be regarded as an un-safe rejoin. This is only excused when the car is flipped over or "stuck" and must be reset to continue driving, all the above rules still apply to the reset in this case.
F. Blue Flags:
I. If given a blue flag (in-game system) you are to reduce speed when most convenient for both parties and as soon as possible. If timed awkwardly and a faster car is passing a backmarker in a corner, the backmarker must do everything in his/her ability to concede the position and avoid any contact, even if this means going off-track. However, if the driver in a slower car is being passed and is in a close in-class battle, it is the faster-classed cars responsibility to pass the battling drivers in a safe manner (straights recommended).
II. To help signal that you are faster and/or a lap ahead, leaders are encouraged to flash their lights to signal backmarkers to concede the position. Flashing lights usually are a signal, however, if there is no blue flag on your screen then it could be a distraction technique. Pay attention to your position/ other cars on the track. You can also use the blue, red, and white markers on your mini-map to identify if you are battling the car behind for position.
III. When overtaking lapped cars, overtaking rules still apply. If a lead car is frustrated with a backmarker and makes contact, regular rules for contact still apply.
G. Pit Stops:
I. You must stay within the white lines when entering and exiting the pits.
II. Pit stops are not mandatory for this season, nor are tire changes or fuel acquisition.
III. Pit stops will be manual, so you must keep below 60 kph (37 mph), a pit limiter is recommended.
H. Game System Disqualification:
I. If the game system black flags you for any reason, record/save your gameplay/replay (set to last 30 minutes on share play) and send it to the stewards. The stewards will determine what can happen based on the video evidence.
J. Formation Lap:
I. Follow the instructions and system used by PC2 as they will dictate how penalties are applied.
II. Warming the tires by weaving is allowed, so keep your distance and pay attention to the car ahead accelerating and breaking.
III. Cars will remain in single file until the formation zone, once in the formation zone, cars must start to regroup into the 2 by 2 formation, this MUST be done before the acceleration zone.
IV. Zones will be detailed and explained in the community forum (www.gtsprintleague.proboards.com) and it is up to the drivers to attain this information.
V. Once on 2 by 2 formation, no weaving or excessive acceleration or breaking is allowed or risk penalty.
VI. If you are placed on the grid in the wrong position stay on course and announce over the chat function (if possible) or flash your lights and move into your proper position indicated by the HUD. Whatever position that the HUD indicates is what you should be in, so do your best to achieve that position before the end of the formation lap but DO NOT harm other drivers, indicate your intentions.
K. Standing Starts
I. Use the in-game standing start procedure when using PC2.
L. Connection & Lag:
I. If you are disconnected or lag and wreck your car, this is unfortunate, but if it occurs multiple times throughout a season we may ask a driver to take a hiatus from the championship until a better connection is available.
II. Your ping must be below 150ms to race in this league.
III. When pausing the game (to teleport to pits etc.) you must ensure that your car is off to the side of the track in a safe location or is already in the pits.
IV. The inherent lag when joining and/or exiting a session is impossible to mitigate. Therefore, it is crucial that players stay in the lobby regardless of the situation during a race session. If you crash out or have technical difficulties (wheel breaks etc.) you must remain in the session until the race is over to avoid lag harming other drivers race. Depending on the situation, penalties can be given.
M. Rule Enforcement:
I. To ensure drivers are compensated fairly, penalties will be given out by a 3rd party steward, if not available then league staff will deal with penalties. (To avoid conflict of interest, staff will be given the worst possible penalty in each situation if they are the perpetrator).
II. To prosecute someone, it is highly recommended that a race replay is provided (in-game replay, screen capture, share play recording).
a. Get acquainted with the share play function on Playstation4, as it can be a useful tool as there can be some discrepancies.
b. GTSL TV footage (any footage captured from the race) can also be used as evidence.
III. To make an Inquiry, go to the Stewards Panel forum board, and create a new thread containing all information, title the thread with your PSN, all associated parties PSN, and the date. List all information along with a video or video link to all evidence. If there are multiple cars involved in an accident put all associated parties in your inquiry. Paired with evidence and driver testimonies, a solution will be found by league stewards.
N. Penalties:
I. For most track limits and simple infractions, the in-game system will deal with penalties.
II. For steward inquired penalties the following can be dealt:
a. Time penalties
b. Drive Through Penalty in Next Race
i. This will be a manual drive through. You must enter the pits using the speed limiter and then exit the pits without making a pitstop. This can be done at any time throughout the race however it cannot be done during your last lap or the formation lap.
c. Qualifying Ban for the Next Race
d. Championship Point Removal
e. Race Ban
f. Multiple Race Ban
g. Season Suspension
h. Season Expulsion
i. League Banishment
III. All Steward’s decisions are final. If you disagree, you may appeal, but it will cost 1 championship point.
O. Points
I. Points will be awarded for every car that completes the race session. The car does not have to complete every lap of the race; however, it must stay for the duration of the session. This will award said car the number of points for the position that it finishes in class.
II. If a driver quits or exits the race session without a valid reason, no points will be awarded.
III. On a race weekend with multiple race sessions, a half-point structure will be mandated for shorter races.
P. Race Restarts
I. If the start of a race is plagued with issues (lag spikes, game-related incidents, users being DQ’d) and it affects a significant portion of the field; a race restart can be requested. This can only be enabled by race officials (administrators, coordinators, moderators).
II. Administrators will deploy a PSN message to the entire GTSL community that will clearly indicate that a race restart will be in effect.
III. Race restarts will potentially reset qualifying and the race in reduced formats (race specific).
Rules are subject to change and can be amended by staff at any point during the season.
